Relative sizes of Warren Park, the original Mile Square of Indianapolis, and Athens. Each are designed on a "human scale," meaning that walking is a viable form of transportation. Note that Eastgate, a 1950s era shopping mall, is similar in size to the ancient Athenian market place. Malls have generally increased in size since the 1950s, raising questions of whether they have exceeded a comfortable human scale.
Also note that Athens is very similar in size to the territory I considered my "stomping grounds" as a teenager, an area that covered about a third of Warren Park, including Al Green's.
